Hot off the Geeksters.org press (don't hurt yourself reading it), Google has opened Gmail to everyone now without having an "invitation". http://www.geeksters.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=613 I'm sure that Gmail usage will increase simply becuase their very clean interface and sheer amount of storage space available. Also, by signing up for a Gmail account, that will make all of the Google apps such as Gtalk available for your use.

Call me selfish but I kind of preferred it to stay 'exclusive'. But that is wishful thinking. I have never tried Google talk but I regularly use the chat thing in Gmail and it keeps getting 'cut off' as it is... especially when you're downloading a vid from within Gmail while chatting. Now it goes with the territory to expect getting 'cut-off' more often.
