I'm sorry I can't be of help to u, Cathy. I don't know a thing about preseving flowers. When I get fresh flowers, I simply put them in a vase till they dried out then I throw them away. Let me ask me see if I can ask anyone around. |

There is a product called "silica" (spelling) that is used for drying out flowers. It is a powder and works great. The pro's use it.. I haven't looked for it in a while, but will look into it again..I have used it, but not in a long time. It keeps the color and you can spray them to last forever..I'll get back with more info

on Feb 28th, 2006, 11:35pm, MissFartyPants wrote: Hi Justine! Thanks for replying. Sure sounds like a whole lot of work. LOL. I just now pressed the flowers but I'm afraid it's too late. The leaves have all curled up now and cracks when I try to straightened them up Vaseline petroleum jelly didn't help either. And it looks so dull, I almost feel sorry for them (flowers). They look so lovely before I have neglected them I'll summon my little artistic inclinations and see if I can come up with something. Dried and dull as it is, I am still going to have it framed. Hanging it upside down sounds like a good idea .. but it's going to accumulate dusts over the years... I want to hold on to my flowers for as long as is possible. I am being stubborn for not wanting to trust any one to handle it. They just don't realise how special it is. And Indians could be annoyingly stupid and careless sometimes and I don't want to risk it. Hell, if I might try to frame it myself. But I can imagine it's a lot of work. I'm just about given up. Ooooo, the labor of love. This ain't fun at all. lol. Thanks all for the advice/suggestions. I'll still keep an eye on this thread.. wouldn't hurt to have as many options as possible. Thanks so much guys. |
| Those flowers must really be special for you then. I tried to reach my aunt and just found out she's out of the country I can imagine some things I could do with that bouquet but considering its present condition, it may not be a good idea experimenting. I think Jimbo can help more since he knows about the preservative, you may still save it and get on with framing. Wish I could help further....If I get a chance to talk to my aunt though, I'll let you know.

Hey you guys, Thanks SO much for your input. I have pressed the flowers with the help of a desk turned upside down (please don't laugh too hard). I was hoping it would help the 'pressing' process a lot quicker. Jimbo, Justine and Edith ----- I owe you big time.
