(8/22/2007) Audio Chat Sever Report

After reviewing several audio chat servers, I've chosen two of them due to their setup requirements, pricing and ease of use. I have chosen Roger Wilco software in the short term and Mumble for the long term. Why short term and long term? I'll need to build an entire new server for Mumble to work and I'm planning that for the end of the year. My current server cannot handle Mumble. It can however handle Roger Wilco and I've been running local LAN tests on it. I'm ready to start Internet testing anytime now. Why audio chat? With the current problems of Yahoo chatrooms, I was asked if my chat servers could do audio chat. No, IRC (Internet Relay Chat) servers do not do audio and my instant messaging service does not do group audio conferences. Thus, I researched and came up with these two solutions. After setup and testing is complete, I'll have complete instructions on how to use this new service. You of course can just do audio, but it can be used with either my IRC server, IM service or even the forum chatroom. It is your choice. The quality is about the same as using Yahoo voice. Stay tuned for an official announcement when it is good to go.
